Tropical fruit from Costa Tropical de Granada – ENG

Tropical fruit from Costa Tropical de Granada

It takes only 45 minutes to discover the tropical coast of Europe. From September avocadoes, mangoes and cherimoya are in their ripening season. Costa Tropical de Granada is the leading European producer and exporter of these fruits. The Mediterranean coast of Granada is a true paradise for growing fruit – in itself making this warm, quiet corner full of history well worth a visit. These tropical crops were imported here in the middle of the 20th century and the ideal climate conditions, with an mean temperature of 20ºC and 320 sunny days per year, guarantee splendid harvests.

The visual power of the landscape and architecture of the village situated in Poniente de Granada will grab your attention immediately. The first eye-catching sight in Montefrio is that of the monumental complex of Iglesia de la Villa, situated on the top of the rock in a wonderful architectural arrangement. At its base you will find Casa de Oficios and the Iglesia de la Encarnación church, with an interesting round plan inspired by the Pantheon of Agrippa in Rome. Villa Entre Pinos ENG

Villa “Entre Pinos”

This villa, standing in the shade of 40-year-old Mediterranean pine trees, offers you a comfortable and exclusive living space of close to 200 m2. Its location on a slight slope in the direction of a national park ensures spectacular views from every room. This is helped by the wonderful panoramic windows, which allow the environment to enter this amazing villa from the south-west. The pine trees next to the building provide shade on the terraces and seem to reach almost into the villa with its green branches.

The building has been projected in the shape of the letter ‘Z’, which provides clear links to the ‘cortijos’ in traditional Andalusian architecture. However, the extensive glazing gives it a modern character. The traditional high-quality materials that are used such as stone, travertine and traditional ceramic roof tiles give a feeling of timelessness.

  • First floor

The first floor of the ‘Ardina’ villa was designed as an independent apartment – studio, that in the vision of the investor will form the office and headquarters of the Yardina company. To underline this independence, this part of the house has been designed with its own bathroom, kitchenette and conference room. An addition to the comfortable office space is a terrace from which one can admire the panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada National Park and the city of Granada in the valley.

  • Bathrooms

The facilities of the villa include separate bathrooms for two of the bedrooms, as well as one common bathroom, and walk-in closets. The upper floor functions as an independent, fully-equipped apartment. To complete all that there is a garage built into the building and a traditional Andalusian garden with a centrally-situated swimming pool.

  • Garden

The garden surrounding the villa, just like the gardens of the other houses, is clearly linked to the National Park that borders with the resort. The arrangement of bushes, herbs and decorative grasses perfectly blend in with the lemon trees, orange trees and almond trees. This will be accompanied with plants underlining the Mediterranean character of the villa. These plant compositions, enriched with olive trees, should link the villa with the gardens of the Alhambra and the parks of Grenada.

National Park – ENG

OUTSIDE YOUR WINDOW

A National Park

The Jupiter Park resort borders directly on the Sierra Nevada National Park. This unique location gives the inhabitants the possibility to have direct contact with nature in a spectacular way.

source: www.turgranada.es

The Sierra Nevada National Park covers a large mountainous area of close to 86,000 hectares. It includes the highest peaks on the Iberian peninsula and has more than 20 peaks over 3,000 metres, the highest of which is Mulhacén (3479 m). The Park stretches from the outskirts of Granada to the western borders of Almeria. Due to the huge variety of landscapes and the natural value of the Sierra Nevada Park, the area was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

source: www.turgranada.es

The unusual climate and the significant height differences have resulted in a wide variety of unique plants that are adapted to the difficult mountain conditions. On a hike to the highest peaks, such as Veleta (3392 m) or Cerro de los Machos (3327 m), you can come across a Sierra Nevada Violet, or a Snow Star. The mountain range also includes beautiful valleys of glacial origin, such as Siete Lagunas.

The landscape at moderate altitude is dominated by deciduous forests made up of oak, maples, cherry, and chestnut trees, with an occasional pine grove. These forests change the nature of the landscape into various seasons. The lower levels consists mostly of oak trees and rows of deciduous trees that line the rivers.

The climate and the wide variety of plants mean that there is a lot of wildlife. In the high mountains you can observe countless species of birds. There are buzzards, falcons and ravens, and in the forests you are likely to find blackbirds, orioles and kingfishers. The golden eagles that circle high above the mountains are guaranteed to make an unforgettable impression.

source: www.turgranada.es

The dense forests and thicket ensure the presence of a large number of mammals, including wild boar, foxes and badgers. In the higher regions you can also find mountain goats, which are common in this mountain range. You can see them wandering through the Dilar valley or the Poqueira gorge, climbing slopes or standing on outcrops of rock. Another common spectacle are invertebrates. There are many species that are found only in this area, among them over 200 kinds of butterflies and more than thirty kinds of beetles.

source: www.turgranada.es

Alpujarra Valley

The Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Romans have all inhabited the area of the Sierra Nevada, but there is no doubt that the Arabs have left behind the greatest legacy. It is still visible in the architecture and the still functioning irrigation systems. The architecture of the towns in the Alpajurra valley is surprising and impressive. Among the white houses along narrow streets on the slopes of the mountains, time has stopped. The flat roofs, slender chimneys and the ‘tinaos’ (porches) give the impression that the early Arab inhabitants are still residing there.

Los Cahorros

The numerous tourist trails encourage hiking. Trails such as those that can be found through the Los Cahorros gorge and along the Monachil river are wonderful examples. They attract hikers and rock climbing amateurs because of attractions such as hanging bridges and passages past crevasses, cages and rock ledges. People who loves hikes in the mountains, fishing or just walking will find a suitable place to pass their time and relax.

Granada ENG

A MAGICAL PLACE

Granada

“Included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List, Granada charms visitors with its beauty and its oriental climate. This is best defined by the still current saying:

“If you see a blind beggar on the streets of Granada, give them twice as much as they ask you, to compensate them for not being able to see the beauty of the city they are in.”

Located at the foot of the massive Sierra Nevada, the city was the capital of the last Moorish kingdom on the Iberian peninsula. Its downfall in 1492 not only meant the end of their reign, but also the end of a certain epoch in the history of the city, an epoch that lasted for almost 800 years and left many traces behind. These are not only proof of the power of the Moors that inhabited the area, but they also give the city a special character and a unique beauty.”

Granada

It is the capital of the province and one of the biggest cities in Andalusia and accessible via motorways, by train and by plane. The airport is only 20 km from the Jupiter Park resort. Via motorway A-92 it takes two-and-a-half hours to get from Granada to Sevilla. As it’s also just one-and-a-half hour drive to Malaga, it forms an ideal base to explore Andalusia from. The city is also linked to the high-speed railway line (AVE) with Madrid and Sevilla. From the bus station you can take a bus to any place in Spain.

źródło: www.turgranada.es

 Alhambra

The most important monument in Granada. This citadel and palace, built in the 13th century by the Nasrid dynasty and extended in the 14th century, sits majestically above the city. For centuries it functioned as a fort for the Moorish caliphs. The Alhambra is one of the most important medieval buildings and the most beautiful example of Islamic art and architecture in Europe. It is seen as a symbol of the city all over world.

source: www.turgranada.es

Albaicín

Opposite the Alhambra, the former Arab district Albaicin is located on an extensive hill, forming a fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and white houses with interior gardens called Cármenes. From the many viewpoints (miradores) you can admire the palace and citadel against the backdrop of the rest of Granada and the Sierra Nevada mountains. The district is famous for its unique atmosphere. Small shops with arts and crafts run by Moroccan traders, countless cafés, restaurants and tapa bars can be found here. It’s easy to get lost in the meandering streets among the sound of flamenco guitars and the people singing and dancing. All this makes Albaicin a popular area for both tourists and inhabitants of Granada.

source: www.turgranada.es

Sacromonte

Next to Albaicin, on a neighbouring hill is the Sacromonte district, which has been inhabited by the Romani for hundreds of years, hence the name the ‘gypsy’ district. The residences here are mostly caves adapted to a modern lifestyle. The district is world famous for its special performances and flamenco shows. These are often held in the original interiors of the Romani homes. Just like Albaicin, the Sacromonte district has a special and unique atmosphere. Even just a walk along the narrow streets may be an unforgettable experience.

Catedral

The Granada Cathedral or Cathedral of the Incarnation (Santa Iglesia Catedral Metropolitana de la Encarnación de Granada) was built as a symbol of the victory of Christianity over the Islam. It is believed to be the first Renaissance cathedral in Spain. It took 181 years to complete and was never finished according to the original project. During the construction it turned out that the soil was beginning to settle under the weight of the enormous building. This forced the architects to change the earlier planned height. Nevertheless, the building is impressive and seen as an extraordinary example of a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles.

source: www.turgranada.es

Other monuments

There are many monuments in town that are worth seeing, for example the numerous churches built at first by the Moors as mosques and later reconstructed after the Catholics conquered the town. These buildings have an extraordinary style that is known as Mudejar. It is further proof of the rich historical heritage in Granada. Museums, art galleries and theatres make this a vibrant city all year round, day and night.

University Campus

Granada currently is not only a place that attracts tourists but it is also one of the most important academic centres of Spain. The University, founded by Charles V in 1531, is located in the centre of the city and is the third largest in Spain. Around 70,000 students from all over the world study here.

source: www.turgranada.es

Granada – Surroundings

Granada is situated at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the highest mountain range on the Iberian peninsula. These mountains, offering wonderful views, are also the location of one of the most important ski resorts in Spain. Close to the city is the Costa Tropical coast, with lots of beaches. It takes about 40 minutes by car. Another important attraction is the Alpujarra valley, about 30 minutes from Granada. This is a series of valleys and gorges with about 50 gorgeous villages. Also worth visiting is the Geopark, which is about 20 minutes to get to by car. It has a majestic plain called ‘Fin del Mundo’ (The End of the World). Spectacular air balloon competitions take place here every year.

Costa Tropical – ENG

DISCOVER THE USUSUAL

Costa Tropical

Dozens of beaches and small bays with crystal-clear water. 320 sunny days per year and an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. Those are the references that Costa Tropical can boast about, as well as having a coastline of 73 kilometres in the Granada province.

The name Tropical is not random. The amazing climate all year round has made it the only place in Europe where tropical fruits like mango, custard apple and avocado have been grown for two centuries. Costa Tropical – a name that brings to mind exotic tastes and places – is perfect for one of the most privileged corners of Andalusia. The most important places on this tropical coast are Almuñécar, Motril and Salobreña.

source: www.turgranada.es

Almuñécar, founded by the Phoenicians a thousand years before Christ under the name of Sexi, is a place with a rich history, remains of which can be found in the ruins of the Roman saltworks, fragments of an aqueduct and the Arab castle. It is a tourist centre where a wonderful jazz festival is organized every year.

źródło: www.turgranada.es

After Granada, Motril is the most beautiful town in the province and a Mediterranean port. Among its monuments, worth mentioning are the Iglesia Mayor de la Encarnación church and the Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza sanctuary, built on the foundations of the summer palace of Aixa, the mother of Boabdil, the master of the Granada kingdom and the last monarch of the Nasrid dynasty. This is where a modern tourist resort with a marina will be created.

source: www.turgranada.es

Salobreña resembles a mountain sprinkled with large sugar cubes. The small white cubic houses are scattered along the coast, surrounding a hill topped by a monumental Arab castle. From the top you can admire panoramic views over the Sierra Nevada, the Mediterranean beaches and the fertile valley.

source: www.turgranada.es

Beautiful beaches and small bays where you can relax surrounded by lush countryside and enjoying views of the Mediterranean Sea. Costa Tropical is also paradise for lovers of water sports. Kite surfing, windsurfing, scuba diving at the foot of the Cerro Gordo cliffs, as well as marinas: Marina del Este (Almuñécar) and Club Náutico de Motril.

source: www.turgranada.es

An addition to all of this is the wonderful local cuisine based on fish, shellfish and tropical fruit. Here you can also try sugar cane rum made in Motril.
