Costa Tropical

Dozens of beaches and small bays with crystal-clear water. 320 sunny days per year and an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. Those are the references that Costa Tropical can boast about, as well as having a coastline of 73 kilometres in the Granada province.

The name Tropical is not random. The amazing climate all year round has made it the only place in Europe where tropical fruits like mango, custard apple and avocado have been grown for two centuries. Costa Tropical – a name that brings to mind exotic tastes and places – is perfect for one of the most privileged corners of Andalusia. The most important places on this tropical coast are Almuñécar, Motril and Salobreña.

Almuñécar, founded by the Phoenicians a thousand years before Christ under the name of Sexi, is a place with a rich history, remains of which can be found in the ruins of the Roman saltworks, fragments of an aqueduct and the Arab castle. It is a tourist centre where a wonderful jazz festival is organized every year.

After Granada, Motril is the most beautiful town in the province and a Mediterranean port. Among its monuments, worth mentioning are the Iglesia Mayor de la Encarnación church and the Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza sanctuary, built on the foundations of the summer palace of Aixa, the mother of Boabdil, the master of the Granada kingdom and the last monarch of the Nasrid dynasty. This is where a modern tourist resort with a marina will be created.

Salobreña resembles a mountain sprinkled with large sugar cubes. The small white cubic houses are scattered along the coast, surrounding a hill topped by a monumental Arab castle. From the top you can admire panoramic views over the Sierra Nevada, the Mediterranean beaches and the fertile valley.

Beautiful beaches and small bays where you can relax surrounded by lush countryside and enjoying views of the Mediterranean Sea. Costa Tropical is also paradise for lovers of water sports. Kite surfing, windsurfing, scuba diving at the foot of the Cerro Gordo cliffs, as well as marinas: Marina del Este (Almuñécar) and Club Náutico de Motril.

An addition to all of this is the wonderful local cuisine based on fish, shellfish and tropical fruit. Here you can also try sugar cane rum made in Motril.
